Pediatric Hospitalist Service
-
You will work with Dr. McHardy and Dr. Driscoll.
Pt’s are essentially all pediatric patients without a private
Pediatrician (SCFM, PCHC, no-docs). Dr.
McHardy and Dr. Driscoll may also have you see their private patients if the
service isn’t very busy.
-
In the mornings, you will meet the attending on the
Peds floor between 8-9AM most days. Your
goal should be to arrive early enough to have seen all the patients and have
your notes written before the attending arrives.
Then when the attending comes in, you will see the patients together,
discuss the A/P, and he will write his note.
-
Afternoons will be spent at Small World Pediatrics
(Dr. McHardy’s and Dr. Driscoll’s private practice).
You will see patients on your own, then present them to the
attending, then go back in to the room and see them together.
-
Admissions
on the Peds service are the responsibility of the Peds intern during normal
business hours. That means if
you are at Small World Pediatrics and an admission comes in, you should
return to the hospital to take care of the admission.
If you are post-call or in clinic, Dr. McHardy or Dr. Driscoll will
handle the admissions themselves.
-
Remember to
include pregnancy, birth history, nursery history and immunizations in the pediatric
history. Also get a social history (i.e. Smokers in house, who child
lives with). Refer to Dr.
McHardy’s Pediatric H&P Sheet given out during Orientation for more
details.
-
In addition to dictating
an H&P, write a brief admit note in the chart including assessment
& plan.
